Hi Human, Can we talk?

AI has become a prominent topic in our world. As a former IT professional, the conversations on AI value versus AI risk were common, always asking “where does it make sense?”.

When I blogged in the early 2000s, this was not a consideration. I knew I wrote my words. My readers (if there were any) knew, or at least assumed, that I wrote each post. But now, as I personally navigate the social and community aspects of blogging or social media, I find myself wondering “did they write this?” or “is this real?” on a regular basis.

I’m trying to build an authentic space, so I believe transparency on how AI, as it continues to advance, may infiltrate this blog. Perhaps that begins with transparency on why I wanted to blog to begin with. So, why did I?

  • Reason 1: A season of life changes, including a big move and leaving my job, has inspired me to reflect.
  • Reason 2: I’ve always loved to write. From blogs to half-written books, with lots of journaling in between, words have always been a way to process the world around me.
  • Reason 3: I want to knit and to talk about knitting, but I don’t know any other knitters in real life. There’s a community here, and I want to connect.
  • Reason 4: Once upon a time, I wrote a personal mission statement that said, “I want to be inspired and inspire others.” Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes, and I want a space to document what inspires me…and maybe it will inspire you.
  • Reason 5: Ultimately, I want to learn and grow by pushing my own boundaries, trying new things, and putting myself out there – without fear.

Given these reasons, AI would primarily be a hindrance, even if it would be a time saver, to my personal goals for blogging. But that doesn’t mean it is out of the realm of possibility that AI could be useful…sometimes.

So, if you’d like to see where AI could appear, take a look at my AI Pledge. At the end of the day, my commitment is to be a human…talking to another human…about knitting and personal growth.

What do you think? What place is AI finding in your world, blogging/social media or otherwise? Let’s talk in the comments!
