Three bunnies hopped across my path.
Six herons sunned themselves, wings opened wide.
One turtle popped up its head to say hello.
A great white egret perched high upon a wall, taking in the view alongside me.
My routine walk is a tour through my local ecosystem, and I am always filled with gratitude and a general feeling of abundance, as the world comes alive through experiencing nature. For the time it takes to walk just over 4 miles, I listen to birds, watch for gators, and experience the connectedness of the universe, first-hand.
It is a beautiful escape, right outside of my door. So, I happily walk with the sunshine on my face and joy filling my heart with each step. In recent months, I had the aspiration to add knitting into my walking routine.
In fact, when I made my first Twice Sheared Sheep order, I purchased the Mandala Yarn to Go Carousel and added a wrist strap. My next goal was to figure out what kind of project would work best for knitting while walking.

Fast forward to last week, when I decided to conquer my fear of sock knitting. After getting through a clumsy cast-on and 15 rows of 1×1 ribbing, I settled into the magic loop method quite easily and zoomed through the leg of my first sock. As I did, my mind was filled with visions for being a sock knitter. The kind who always has a sock going, even as other projects come and go.

As I attempt to conquer knitting while walking, what better project is there than a portable and lightweight sock? And, how fitting is it to reward my steps with comfy, handmade socks? Maybe this is the perfect way to match my steps to my stitches.
It certainly feels like a perfect match! Or, at least, it will be…if I conquer second-sock syndrome.
Have you tried knitting and walking? If not, would you consider giving it a try?
Happy knitting (and walking!)
