I don’t always shop on Amazon’s annual Prime Day. Instead, I’ve simply considered myself lucky if I happen to stumble upon a deal when I was already shopping. But this year, with local yarn stores about an hour away, I’ve been in greater need of Amazon as a source for knitting supplies and yarn.

So, on this Prime Day, I set out to find a few undiscovered brands from Amazon as a test to see how Amazon can support my knitting needs in the absence of a close-by small business.

My goal was to find a knitting needle set, a natural fiber yarn, and a few knitting accessories. Here’s what I found:

The section below contains affiliate links from Amazon, where I may earn a commission.

  1. Row Counter Chain

I have often switched between a standard row counter and apps on my phone. Both have one fatal flaw – I have to remember to click it at the end of each row! I’ve wanted to make one of these row counter chains, but at less than $5 today, I decided it was easier to purchase this than the supplies to make one.

2. Aluminum Interchangeable Circular Needles

I saw this brand of interchangeable needles a few weeks ago and was shocked by their everyday price. The reviews were pretty impressive for the price point, and the extra 20% off was the only nudge I needed. These will be a complement to my KnitPicks set of needles, but I hope they get good use. I really like the accessories that are included too!

3. Wooden Yarn Holder

I’ve been somewhat of a knitting minimalist when it comes to supplies that don’t fit into a bag that I can take on the go, but I’ve found myself using the exterior strand of yarn (rather than the center pull) more frequently recently, so this seems like a simple solution to keep knitting tension as even as possible when that happens.

4. Cashmere/Wool/Angora Blend Yarn

My last Amazon yarn purchase was a bust (read about that here), but I am determined to find a quality option for those times when I can’t take the hour-long drive to the local yarn shop. The fiber blend and color of this yarn grabbed my interest right away.

5. Knit by Alice Hoyle

Finally, my searches for Prime deals included this book in the results. I’ve recently been working on improving my knitting acumen so that I can be more free-flowing in my approach. I’d love to let yarn inspire me and feel confident that I can bring that inspiration to life with my needles. The subtitle of this book “Dynamic patterns and techniques for creative making” seemed to fit this need, so I grabbed it while it was discounted too.

I’m excited to receive these items in the next few days. The row counter and yarn holder will be put to immediate use. Stay tuned for future reviews!
