WIP Limits

Like people in general, knitters each have their own ways of doing things. For some, a basket of works-in-progress (WIPs) is an invitation to variety in their knitting lives, keeping things spicy in the midst of a slow craft like knitting. For others, such a basket is a visual reminder of things left undone.

I, mostly, fall into the latter camp, unwilling to juggle multiple projects at once. This choice, ultimately a strategy, leverages my natural obsession of a single project and gets it finished while my enthusiasm is high. Otherwise, the basket builds and dust collects, the passion for a project lost to time.

At times, my hyper-fixation on a single project prevents progress elsewhere. Certainly laundry is not a priority when a project has captivated me! But, other knitting projects get sidelined, too. And that is where we find ourselves today – a primary project delaying another plan.

I am currently working on a simple raglan sweater, with the Knitting for Olive mohair/cotton-merino yarn that I was previously contemplating. (More details coming soon!) But, all of my Prime Day purchases have officially arrived, which has made me want to dive into using the Cashmere/Wool/Angora Blend Yarn and the Aluminum Interchangeable Circular Needles.

The section above contains affiliate links from Amazon, where I may earn a commission.

This morning, I woke up with the intention of knitting a swatch, so that I could properly review the yarn/needles here. However, I can’t seem to break myself away from continuing on the soothing stockinette body of my current sweater quite yet, even just for a small test swatch! I have about 3 inches remaining on the body, but of course, two whole sleeves will be calling to me after that. My mind is fixated, and even a small distraction seems unwelcome today.

As for now, I have convinced my OCD-brain to finish the body before making a swatch. I’m hoping the end of the body section will feel like a natural place to stop and allow me to pick up something new, albeit a small something, without feeling like I’m doomed to leaving things unfinished.
