Mantra Knitting

I completed the second sock (of my first ever handknit pair!) on my fifth wedding anniversary. As I grafted the toe, the coincidence felt meant to be, and I couldn’t help but reflect on the feeling of becoming a pair, destined to walk through life together.

Our anniversary celebrations were simple and filled with love, just like our daily life. With tiny sock needles in my hands, I was filled with gratitude for all of the small moments that make up our marriage. The acts of kindness. The moments of laughter. The encouraging words. The comforting hugs. (And so much more!) Combined, these simple things are where the magic exists and where love grows.

It can be easy to take these small things for granted. Knitting a pair of socks, a small utilitarian item with a lot of tiny stitches, feels like a declaration to not forget the importance of each one, no matter how seemingly tiny. Small moments make a big impact, after all.

And so, I was happy that I overcame second sock syndrome and gave my sock the perfect mate. The two socks are unique, with slight variations in their construction, color, and tension (likely a result of knitting in various locations during the second sock). Together, they bring comfort, warmth, and joy to my life. I will be grateful for every step we take together.

I have another ball of sock yarn at-the-ready. The next pair will don the feet of my husband, assuming I can power through the larger foot size, that is!
