Do you know where your happy place is? For me, my spirit is filled with joy when I am creating (typically either knitting or writing) surrounded by the sights, smells, and sounds of a cafe environment. I love watching groups of people, chatting and laughing with one another. I love hearing the whir of the espresso machine. I love the smell of freshly ground coffee beans combining with the buttery smell of pastries and bagels in the toaster.
On Saturday, my morning began with a lovely library visit. I picked up a hold on the book Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke. After reading the multitudes of mixed reviews, I’m excited to dive into this book to form my own opinion. I also grabbed two knitting pattern books: A Knitter’s Year by Ida Wirak Trettevik & Laine’s 52 Weeks of Accessories.

With my new books in hand, I went to a local coffee shop to enjoy an oat milk latte and maple pecan pastry (my newest addiction, and yes, I had to take a bite before even snapping a pic! lol). While there, I worked on a simple raglan sweater, using Florence Miller’s Step-by-Step Sweater pattern and Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted in Soft Cream. I cast-on this project as a bit of a break from the chart-intensive Poet Scarf that I recently completed. It also uses a long-term stash yarn that has been taking up too much space in my storage cabinet, so I figured win-win.

I’m excited for this simple wardrobe staple to be added to my closet for the fall/winter. Speaking of staples, I also cast-on a new sock, using the Bamboo Pop Sock yarn that I purchased during my Knoxville LYS Tour. I’m using the same Favorite Socks pattern that started my sock journey, but I’ve added a quatrefoil eyelet stitch pattern, from the Knitting Stitches card deck, on the cuff and top of foot. I shortened the cuff to have just two repeats of the stitch pattern. I’m loving this sock yarn’s silky feel, and I think it will be a great sock for every season.
These simple projects are just what I needed, and my weekend morning at my happy place has rejuvenated me in so many ways. I hope you find yourself at your happy place soon, too!
Happy Knitting!
