Gifted

Holidays are a magical time for many reasons, but for me, there is one reason that outshines the rest – my mother’s Christmas spirit. It’s infectious, and I’ve been the lucky observer of her bright and festive energy for decades.

Every year, she creates a full-blown experience as she hosts our family in her home. Everyone’s favorite drink?… check! Nostalgic goodies from the past?… you bet! Games with prizes? …on it!

She not only dresses the part, donning her Christmas costume, but she embodies the generous spirit in every way. She’s gifted at making people feel welcomed, seen, and loved.

My mother has always been an inspiration to me, and as I watched her hand out perfect gifts to the people she loves, I was simply in awe of her.

She takes her time thinking about each person’s interests, and she certainly has me figured out. For me, my mom selected several knitting focused gifts to fill my stocking – a project bag, knitting socks, a yarn addiction tee, and a personalized “Mantra Knitting” yarn holder. Her choices were spot on, and I’ve been looking forward to getting use out of each item.

My gift to my mother was a handknit book sleeve that fit two new spiritual journals. My hope was to make a classic and long-lasting gift that could be a part of her daily devotional, which is already a meaningful part of her life.

I always love giving handmade gifts as an extra special way to show my love and gratitude for someone, but in truth, there is no project that could contain my immense appreciation for my mother. It can only be a symbol of something greater in my heart – love, gratitude, admiration… and so much more.
