The Journey: One Year of the Mantra Knitting Blog

Dear Reader,

When I started this blog, exactly one year ago, I was in a season of change. With a big move in the rearview mirror and lots of new experiences waiting in the distance, my knitting had taken on new meaning. It was a calm in the storm, and I was determined to commit to the practice, like a daily meditation.

At the same time, my lifelong desire to be a writer lurked in the back of my mind. I have started (and stopped) multiple blogs, essays, and books throughout my past. Yet, the urge to write has never strayed, even when a singular idea lost steam. Writing is a therapeutic act in which I intentionally make myself vulnerable and attempt to share something meaningful. Publishing each post is a moment of courage, and I have proven to myself that I can be brave.

And so, as insignificant as a knitting blog may seem, the milestone of a one-year anniversary is something that I am celebrating. This blog, in its entirety, is a scrapbook of a year of creating and learning. It is a collection of essays about the human experience from my personal lens. It is my small contribution to the conversation about knitting and, even more so, life.

When I think of any readers that find my blog, I think of what we might have in common, like knitting. But, on a grander scale, I think of the larger universal truths that we share as humans, like self-doubt when trying something new or gratitude for our loved ones. We worry. We hope. We love. We create. And, as life challenges us, we persevere.

I am proud that I persevered this year. I am transformed by the commitment I kept to myself and to this blog. Another year of possibility lies ahead, and I am inspired by how far we’ve come (and yes, I mean you as well!).

If our journeys have intersected as a result of this blog, thank you for the encouragement along the way. Here’s to another year of self-discovery, growth, and creativity!

P.S. My current knitting project is a sock (well, hopefully a pair!) for my husband, using Malabrigo Sock Metamorphosis in Moraine Lake (#319). “Metamorphosis” could have been the theme of this first year of the Mantra Knitting blog! I’ll be celebrating this blog milestone by working on this project from the downtown of my hometown, where my heart is always full. Happy Knitting!
